Is the Counselling Service Confidential?
There is no such thing as
“absolute confidentiality”
However, the fact that you have asked for counselling, anything you discuss during a counselling session and any decisions that are made, will generally be kept in confidence.
Only the person working with you, and if appropriate their supervisor, will be the only people who will have access to your records.
In some cases confidentiality may be broken if the law says we must or if we are issued with a court order - But all this will be explained fully before any counselling sessions are arranged.

Is there anything else I should know?
This web page is to give you an idea of what counselling is, that it is confidential and what is expected of you when you attend.
Before you have your first counselling session, someone will go through everything you need to know and answer any of your questions, they will also tell you if they feel they can help or if you should be referred on to someone else. The choice to continue or not will be yours.
